Fuel scarcity will be over in days – Lai Mohammed, Nigeria

The minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed, on Wednesday assured the nation that the current fuel scarcity in the country would be over in a matter of days.
Speaking when he paid a courtesy call on Daily Trust newspapers’ office in Abuja, the minister said the recent approval for the payment of subsidy funds by the National Assembly had brought an end to the fuel crisis.
“We can confidently announce here today that the scarcity will end in a few days.
“The National Assembly has approved subsidy payment till the end of the year.
“As you know, we can’t spend money without approval,” he said.
Mr. Mohammed explained that the N521billion approved by the National Assembly would be enough to cover the fuel subsidy till the end of the year.
He said the fuel scarcity, which triggered vehicular queues at the filling stations across the country, would no longer appear again.
“We can assure you that we won’t be caught in this kind of situation again,” said the minister.
The minister thanked the management and staff of the newspaper for the role they played during the last general elections.
“The sacrifice you made helped to bring about the change that Nigerians desired.
“You stood by the people of Nigeria when it mattered most; and we will continue to engage with you all through the tenure of this administration to exchange ideas in the interest of Nigerians,” he said.
Mr. Mohammed announced a plan to set up an ad-hoc committee, comprising representatives of the government, the military and the media to enhance exchange of information, especially concerning the war against terrorism.
He hinted that the 2016 budget would soon be submitted to the National Assembly, and that “it will address the yearnings of Nigerians”.
